Why Am I Unable to Add Someone on Snapchat
There can be many reasons you’re unable to add someone on Snapchat. Let us look at a few of them:
- If the Snapchat app is down, you might not be able to add new people until it is up and running again.
- You can’t add someone on Snapchat if they have currently blocked you.
- If the Snapchat app’s cache is corrupted or too big, it can temporarily cause issues when using certain app features.
- If the account you’re currently adding is private or no longer available, you might experience issues or be unable to add them on Snapchat.
- You might not be able to add new people if you have over 6000 on Snapchat.
- Bugs or glitches from a previous app update can disrupt certain app features, like adding new friends.
- If you add too many friends too quickly, Snapchat might ban you from adding new friends for some time.
Basic Fixes:
- Restart the Snapchat app: Recurring app issues can be because of a temporary error or glitch. To fix this, force the Snapchat app to close and relaunch. Then, check again.
- Ensure you’re not blocked: Snapchat won’t let you add someone if they’ve blocked you. To prevent this, check if someone has blocked you on Snapchat before proceeding.
- Update Snapchat app: Out-of-date apps might also cause problems when adding friends on Snapchat. To fix this, install the latest app updates for Snapchat on your phone.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap on Clear cache . When prompted, tap on Continue .

Fix 2: Check if the Account You’re Adding Is Public
Private accounts on Snapchat restrict who can add them. So, if you have issues adding friends on Snapchat for certain contacts, check if their account is public. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Open Snapchat > tap on your bitmoji icon . Then, tap on Add Friends .

Step 2: Here, tap on All Contacts > tap on the contact you wish to add. Next, tap on their Story .

If you can’t view their Story, it might be because their profile is set to private.
Fix 3: Contact Snapchat Support
If you are still having issues adding friends on Snapchat, contact Snapchat’s support team. Fill out the support form, and Snapchat’s team will contact you once they receive the request. Here’s how to do it.
Step 1: Open Snapchat and tap on your bitmoji icon . Then, tap on the cogwheel icon .
Step 2: Scroll down to the Support section and tap on I Need Help . Then, tap on the hamburger icon at the top-right corner.

Step 3: Here, tap on Contact Us . From the options, select I need help with a Snapchat feature .
Step 4: Tap on Friends > select Adding, deleting, or blocking friends .
Step 5: Here, enter the relevant details and tap on Submit .

This will submit a request to Snapchat regarding the issue. Once your case has been reviewed, Snapchat will contact you accordingly.
If someone has blocked you or deactivated their Snapchat account, it might say forbidden when you try to add them on Snapchat.
To reduce spam and ensure you’re not a bot account, Snapchat might ban you for ‘Adding Friends Too Quickly’. If this happens with your account, you must wait at least 24 hours before adding friends again on Snapchat.
