• Silent mode silences the sound for all new notifications. Your display will still light up, and your iPhone will vibrate when notifications are received.
  • Do Not Disturb will silence sounds and haptics and will not light up the display for notifications. You can customize DND and get notified from specific apps or people.
  • Airplane Mode will turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular networks. You can manually enable Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and continue to use them in Airplane Mode.

What Is Silent Mode on iPhone?

Silent mode makes all notifications inaudible or quiet, thus making your phone silent. The notification banners will also appear, but the tone won’t be audible.

To enable silent mode on your iPhone, use the silent switch (or configure the Action Button to turn on silent mode) on the left side of your iPhone. Alternatively, go to Settings > Sound & Haptics > and reduce the ringer volume.

What Is Do Not Disturb Mode on iPhone?

Do not disturb mode silences the notifications and ensures the display won’t light up or vibrate. But if you check your notification panel or the lock screen, you will see everything you received in DND.

Note: Alarms will still go through when do not disturb mode is enabled. So, don’t worry about that.

  • To enable Do Not Disturb, open the Control Center and toggle on the Do Not Disturb icon.
  • To allow notifications and calls from specific contacts, go to Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb > People. Then, you can enable Allow Notifications From and add contacts to the list. Further, you can also Allow Calls From specific people or everybody when you’ve enabled DND.
  • You can also go to Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb > Apps , and allow notifications from specific apps. You can also turn on Time Sensitive Notifications to avoid missing any alerts or reminders based on a time or deadline.

What Is Airplane Mode on the iPhone?

When you turn on Airplane Mode, your cellular network, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connections are automatically disabled.

However, after activating airplane mode, you can manually enable and use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but your cellular network cannot be enabled.
