- Ensure your internet is working properly and try restarting the Messenger app before attempting anything else.
- If Messenger doesn’t show the delete option for your story, wait for the upload to complete and try again.
- You can also try deleting your Messenger story from the Facebook app.
Try Basic Fixes
- Wait for the story to post and try again . If yo ur story hasn’t been posted yet, the Messenger app won’t show the delete option. You must allow Messenger to post the story before you can delete it.
- Update the app: Meta regularly rolls out updates for its apps, including Messenger. If you have disabled automatic updates on your phone and do not regularly update apps manually, update the Messenger app via the Play Store or App Store if the above fixes don’t work.
Fix 1: Clear App Cache (Android)
Messenger stores temporary files on your phone to operate smoothly and load content faster. However, once this data becomes outdated or corrupted, it can cause some of the app’s features to experience problems. To fix this, try clearing the Messenger app cache using these steps:
Step 1: Long-press on the Messenger app icon > tap the info icon from the menu.
Step 2: Go to Storage > tap Clear cache at the bottom-right corner.

Fix 2: Try Deleting the Story From the Facebook App
You can also delete a Messenger story using the Facebook app since Messenger stories are also visible there. Here are the steps for the same.
Step 1: Open the Facebook app on your Android or iPhone and tap on Your story .
Step 2: Tap the three horizontal dots at the top and select Delete photo . Then, hit Delete to confirm.
