- To hide a comment, tap the three-dot icon next to it and select Hide comment from the options.
- A hidden comment will only be visible to the commenter and their friends. It will be hidden from everyone else (including you).
- Neither the commenter nor your friends/followers will know that you’ve hidden the comment.
When you come across your comment or someone’s comment on your update, select the three-dot menu next to the comment and pick the Hide comment option.
The comment’s text should fade or appear grayed out. You will notice the Unhide option below it which can be useful if you change your mind later.
The same steps will also work on smartphone apps. Press and hold the comment to reveal a pop-up with the Hide comment option.

The treatment remains the same. Your friends won’t be able to view it but their friends or followers would be and if you have common friends, they can view it as well.
To avoid such a situation, you can prevent people from tagging you or decide whether you want to approve the tag or not. That’s called Review and you can find it under Settings > Timeline and Tagging at the bottom of the screen.
What Happens When You Hide a Reply on a Comment
Say the comment is not offending, but one of the replies is inappropriate. You can hide comment replies separately. When you do so, only the reply is hidden from others, the original comment will remain visible to all.
Yes. As mentioned above, you’ll see a ‘This comment has been hidden’ message when you hide a comment. You can see whose comment you’ve hidden. However, if you want to see the content of the hidden post, you’ll have to unhide the post.
Tap the comment > unhide to read it. If you still don’t want the comment to appear on your post, hide it again.
What Happens When You Report a Comment
Similar to when you report someone on Facebook , the platform reviews the report. If it violates their community guidelines, Facebook will contact the author to warn them or disable their profile temporarily or permanently.
It is your right to protect yourself or your business’s reputation but not at the cost of losing customers. That is a judgment call and you have to decide whether to react or respond.
