- You’ll need to have access to Classic Outlook if you want to manage your AutoArchive Settings like you have in the past.
- Classic Outlook is not only available if you have an Office 365 account.
- Sometimes, your AutoArchive settings are missing because they were turned off accidentally.
The “New” Outlook may be sleek and streamlined, but it’s also a nightmare for people who are used to the advanced features the old version of Outlook offered. That’s especially the case for the AutoArchive feature – it still seems to be nowhere to be found in New Outlook. So, what can you do when your AutoArchive settings are missing? We have a few fixes for you.
Fix 1 – Switch Back to “Classic” Outlook
Classic Outlook still offers an AutoArchive you can actively tweak. Microsoft has been nice enough to offer a method for switching back (perhaps because it knows that New Outlook isn’t so hot), and you can do it with this method.
Step 1 : Open New Outlook and select “Help” from the toolbar. Click the “Go to Classic Outlook” button.

Step 2 : You’ll see a screen where Microsoft asks you for feedback on New Outlook. You can provide it and hit the “Submit” button or hit “Skip Feedback” if you don’t want to tell Microsoft anything.

With Classic Outlook restored, you should be able to find your AutoArchive settings again. However, we have a quick note on this method. Newer Windows devices don’t have Classic Outlook installed as standard – again Microsoft are pushing the new. If nothing happens when you hit “Go to Classic Outlook,” you may have to download and install Classic Outlook from the Microsoft website. You’ll also need an Office 365 account to access Classic Outlook.
Fix 2 – Review Your AutoArchive Settings
Let’s assume you now have Classic Outlook. If you still can’t find your AutoArchive settings, you may have accidentally turned them off. Fix that issue with these steps.
Step 1 : Click “File” in the toolbar at the top of the screen and select “Options.”

Step 2 : Head to “Advanced” and click the “AutoArchive Settings” button you should see near the top of the screen.

Step 3 : Make sure that you’ve checked “Run AutoArchive every…” and specified when you want the feature to run. You can also make some more changes to how AutoArchive works, so do so if you want and hit the “OK” button.

Step 4 : Click “OK” on the “Advanced” pop-up that’s still active and you should be able to see your “Archive” settings again.

Fix 3 – Check Individual Folders
You might have a problem with an individual Classic Outlook folder not archiving while the rest archive as you expect. There’s a fix for that too.
Step 1 : Locate the offending folder in the list on the left side of Outlook. Right-click the folder and select “Properties” from the menu.

Step 2 : Head to the “AutoArchive” tab in the pop-up box that appears and make sure that you DON’T have “Do not archive items in this folder” checked. Select “Apply” to reapply your AutoArchive settings to the folder.
