- You can delete an individual chat, or delete all chats from the Data Controls menu in ChatGPT.
- If you don’t want to delete chats, you can Archive chats and hide your chat history.
- If you don’t want ChatGPT to record your chats, and use them to train the model — you can turn off the toggle for it in Data Controls.
Viewing and Deleting Chat History
On Web
Hover your mouse to a chat you want to delete. Click on the three-dots icon, and tap on Delete chat.

To delete all chats, click on your username , and go to Settings.

Then, go to the General tab, and click on Delete All.

On Mobile
Tap on the menu icon at the top right corner, and then tap and hold the chat you want to delete. Tap on delete .
To delete all chats, tap on the menu icon at the top right corner, then tap on your username . Tap on Data Controls , and then select Delete All Chats.

Archiving Chats
If you don’t want to delete chats, you can choose to hide them from the app. You can restore them, or get rid of them later.
On Web
Step 1 : Hover your mouse around a chat and tap on the archive icon. Confirm your action in the next prompt.

Step 2: To access, or delete archived chats, tap on your username, and select Settings .

Step 3: Click on Manage next to Archived chats.

Step 4: You can either unarchive the chat or delete the chat.

Tip: You can also go to Settings > Data Controls > Archive all to archive all chats.
On Mobile
Select the menu icon at the top-left. Tap and hold the chat you want to archive, and select Archive.
To manage archived chats, tap on the menu icon at the top-left, and select your username . Go to Archived chats and you can either Unarchive or Delete the chat.

Tip: You can also go to Settings > Data Controls > Archive All to archive all chats at once.
How to Use ChatGPT in Incognito Mode
If you don’t want ChatGPT to record your chat history and use it for training the AI, here’s what you need to do.
On Web
Select your username, and click on Settings.

Go to Data Controls and turn off the toggle for Chat history & training .

On Mobile
Tap on the menu icon at the top-left corner, then tap on your username . Tap on Data Controls , and then turn off Improve the model for everyone.
