• Google Play Store might not be working over Mobile Data due to various factors, including slow speed or wrongly configured Android settings.
  • You can try clearing the Play Store cache and data to fix most issues.
  • Giving the Play Store unrestricted access or re-logging to your Google Account can solve the problem.

Basic Fixes

  • Check Data Plan : First, ensure you have enough mobile data balance on your data plan. While some apps are lightweight, most apps these days are well over 100MB and can use a lot of data.
  • Check Internet Speed : You should also ensure that your mobile data is working properly and is offering good enough speed to support downloading apps. You can check this with the help of an internet speed tester like Speedtest or Fast .
  • Toggle Airplane Mode : Another way to solve the download problem is to enable airplane mode. Once you turn the Airplane mode off, your phone should connect with your SIM carrier once again, and you can try downloading the apps from the Play Store.

Fix 1: Cancel and Resume Download

If you have allowed auto-update of apps over Wi-Fi only, sometimes the pending downloads could be a reason for this issue. If an app is updating over Wi-Fi and suddenly switches the download to mobile data, the process could be paused resulting in a pending download issue for other apps. To change this, you need to stop all the apps that are currently downloading.

To do so, simply open the Google Play Store, and tap on your Profile icon . Navigate to Manage apps & device > Updating apps > Cancel all .

Fix 2: Clear Cache and Data

Another way to resolve this issue is by clearing the cache and data for Google Play Store and Google Play Services. It’s important to note that clearing the cache will not delete any data from your device. Similarly, removing data will not delete any apps or their data from your device. However, you will be logged out from the Play Store.

To do that, on your Android phone, navigate to Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps > Google Play Store > Storage & cache . Here, first, tap on Clear cache . Once the cache has been cleared, tap on Clear storage .

Now repeat the same steps for the Google Play Services app too. Once done, try relaunching the Google Play Store. You will be asked to log in again. Do that, and try downloading apps using your mobile data.

Fix 3: Reset App Preferences

Resetting app preferences is quite helpful when you experience an issue on your device. Similar to clearing the cache, you will not lose any precious data. However, it will enable disabled apps and notifications, and reset default apps, background data, and permissions restrictions.

To reset app preferences, head over to Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps . Then, tap on the three-dot icon in the top-right corner, and select ‘ Reset app preferences ‘. In the warning that pops up, tap on Reset apps .

Fix 4: Turn off Background Data Restrictions

It’s also important to ensure that Google Play Services has unrestricted data access, especially if you want to download apps over it. Here’s how you can grant it the necessary permissions.

Step 1: Once again, head over to Settings > Apps & notifications > Google Play Store .

Step 2 : Here, tap on Mobile data & Wi-Fi . Finally, enable the toggle next to ‘ Unrestricted data usage ‘.

Repeat the steps for Google Play Services as well.

Fix 5: Re-Login to Your Gmail Account

Sometimes the linked Google account could also be responsible for the issue. You may need to remove it once and add it again.

To do so, head over to Settings > Accounts . Here, tap on the Google account linked with Play Store. Then tap on Remove account on the next screen.

That’s it. Once done, restart the device, and open the Google Play Store. You will be prompted to log in to your Google account. Doing that should fix the Google Play Store not working on Mobile Data issue for you.
