- You can create a poll in a group chat or personal chat in WhatsApp by clicking on the ‘ pin’ or ‘+’ icons.
- Once created, WhatsApp polls will be visible in the chat window until deleted. There is no option to close or edit the poll.
- Enable the Allow multiple answers option to allow participants to vote for multiple choices.
On Mobile
You can create polls in both personal chats and groups. Since we are talking about taking a vote from other users, this function is useful for WhatsApp groups. You can, however, use it in private chats as well. Here’s how to do it on the WhatsApp mobile app.
Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your phone and tap on the relevant group or chat . Then, tap on the pin icon and tap on Poll .
Note: iOS users can tap on the + icon in the bottom left corner and then tap on Poll .
Step 2: Here, enter your question and add options for it. You can use the side buttons to rearrange the options.
Tip: Enable the Allow multiple answers toggle to allow participants to vote for multiple options.
Step 3: Once all the options have been added, tap on the Send button at the bottom-right corner of the WhatsApp Android app. iOS users can tap on Send in the top-right corner.
Tap on the View votes to see who has voted for what option.

On Desktop
Just like the WhatsApp mobile app, you can also create polls when using the WhatsApp desktop app. This can come in handy if you’re predominantly a desktop user. Follow the below steps to do it.
Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your computer and go to the relevant group or conversation . Click on the pin icon and click on Poll .
Step 2: Now, enter your question and add the relevant options . Check the Allow multiple answers option to allow votes for more than one option.
Step 3: Once done, click on the Send button to create the poll.
Once the poll is live, you can occasionally click on the View votes option to check who has cast their vote for which option.
How to Delete a Poll on WhatsApp
Unfortunately, there is no way to edit or end a poll once it has been created in WhatsApp. In this case, if you have accidentally posted a wrong poll or if it is no longer required, you can delete it on WhatsApp. You will be able to delete the poll for everyone only if you have created it in the first place. Here’s how.
On iPhone
Step 1: Open WhatsApp and go to the relevant chat . Long-press the poll and tap on Delete .
Step 2: Then, tap on the bin icon in the bottom-left corner.
When prompted, tap on Delete for Everyone to delete the poll for everyone in the selected chat.
On Android
Step 1: Open WhatsApp and in the relevant chat , long-press on the poll . Once the option becomes available, tap on the bin icon .
Step 2: Then, tap on Delete for everyone .
On Desktop
Step 1: Open WhatsApp and go to the relevant chat . Right-click on the poll and click on Delete .
Step 2: Here, click on Delete for everyone .
Bonus: How to Pin a Poll on WhatsApp
On iPhone
Step 1: Open WhatsApp and long-press the poll . Here, tap on Pin .
Step 2: When prompted, select the pin duration .
On Android
Step 1: Open WhatsApp and long-press the poll . Then, tap on the push pin icon .
Step 2: From the options, select the pin duration and tap on Pin.
This will ensure the message stays pinned for the set duration. Once it is no longer required, unpin the poll from the chat window in WhatsApp.
