Telegram is fast becoming one of the most popular messaging apps among people of all ages, and part of what makes it so great is its many features. A lot of those features are hidden away in the menus, so you might not notice them when you first begin using the app or even if you have been using the app for a long time without realizing all that it’s capable of.
This guide provides a bunch of helpful Telegram hacks to improve your experience.
Telegram Hack 1. Create Chat Folders
If you’ve got a lot of contacts on Telegram, it’s easy for the app to feel a bit cluttered with all those different conversations. Simplify this with chat folders.
Step 1. Go to the “Settings” in Telegram by pressing the three horizontal lines icon and then tapping on “Settings.”

Step 2. Find the “Chat Folders” option and tap it.

Step 3. Click “Create New Folder.” You can then name it and configure it as you like.

Telegram Hack 2. Scheduling Messages
Usually, in messaging apps, you type out your message and hit the “Send” button and it goes to the recipient. But what if you want to message someone in the middle of the night, for example, but then worry you might bother them with an alert? Or do you want to send a message at a specific time and are worried you might forget?
Well, Telegram has a clever little feature that lets you schedule your messages to be delivered at a certain time. Here’s how you use it:
Step 1. Open a chat with the person you want to send a message and type out your message. But don’t tap the “Send” button just yet. Instead, long-press on it.

Step 2. A new menu will appear. You can then select the “Send When Online” message to deliver your message the next time your friend or contact comes online. Or “Schedule Message” to schedule it to be sent at an exact time.

Telegram Hack 3. Send Messages Without Sound
There’s another way you can send messages without bothering people on Telegram – just send a message with the sound disabled.
Step 1. Open a chat, type your message, and long-press the “Send” icon.

Step 2. Tap on “Send Without Sound.”

Telegram Hack 4. Keep Yourself Out of Spam Chats and Groups
One of the downsides with Telegram is that you’re sometimes added to random groups or spam chats that you don’t want to be in. You can fix this by making a quick adjustment to your privacy settings.
Step 1. Press the three lines icon, then go to “Settings.”

Step 2. Go to “Privacy and Security.”

Step 3. Scroll down to the “Privacy” section where you can control privacy settings for various aspects of your Telegram experience. Click on “Invites.”

Step 4. Select “My Contacts” so only people you know and trust can add you to groups.

Telegram Hack 5. Edit or Delete Sent Messages for You and the Recipient
Lots of messaging apps let you delete messages you sent if it was done by accident or you’ve changed your mind about sending them. But Telegram gives you the option to either rewrite or delete messages you’ve sent, and you can do so without the other person knowing.
Step 1. Tap on the message you want to delete. Then press the “Edit” button to quickly rewrite it or “Delete” to get rid of it.

Step 2. If you want to delete it, make sure to check the box that asks if you want to delete it for the recipient, too.

Telegram Hack 6. Hide Your “Last Seen” Status
The “Last Seen” feature is a bit of a controversial one for Telegram users. It basically shows other people when you were last online, so they can see if you’ve used the app recently. It can be frustrating if you want to browse Telegram or chat with certain people without feeling obliged to respond to others. Luckily, you can hide your “Last Seen” status to anyone you want.
Step 1. Press the three horizontal lines, then “Settings.”

Step 2. Select “Privacy and Security.”

Step 3. Scroll down and find the “Last Seen & Online” setting.

Step 4. You can choose to share your status with everyone, your contacts only, or nobody using the buttons at the top. Or you can click on “Add users” next to “Never Share With” and select individual contacts that you don’t want to see your “Last Seen” status. They also won’t know when you’re online.

Telegram Hack 7. Secure Your Chats
Worried about someone being able to pick up your phone and access private chats and messages on Telegram? You can use Telegram’s “Passcode Lock” feature to lock access to those messages.
Step 1. Tap the three lines to get to the menu, then select “Settings.”

Step 2. Go to “Privacy and Security.”

Step 3. Tap on “Passcode Lock” and follow the on-screen prompts to set your passcode.

Step 4. Tap the “Lock” button in the top-right corner of the app whenever you want to lock access to your chats. You’ll have to enter the passcode to unlock it.
