• Open the Messages app > three dots > Settings > Block numbers and spam > Blocked messages > tap the Minus icon to remove the contact from the list.
  • Open Settings > Apps > Default apps > SMS app > Default SMS app.
  • Launch the app > tap on Set Default SMS App > choose Google Messages > Set as Default.

Basic Fixes

  • Check cellular network: Ensure that you have a working cellular network on your phone. Try making a few calls to check the same.
  • Remove and clean your SIM card: Use a clean microfibre cloth to clean the SIM card installed in your Samsung Galaxy phone.
  • Deregister from iMessage: If you have switched to a Samsung phone from iPhone, we suggest switching off iMessage on your iPhone.
  • Check internal storage: You need sufficient internal storage on your Samsung phone to receive and store text messages.
  • Clear Messages app cache: Long-press the Messages app icon > App info > Storage > Clear cache.
  • Update or reinstall the Samsung Messages app: Install the latest version of the Samsung Messages app to get rid of bugs and glitches.
  • Update your Samsung phone: Open Settings > Software Update.

Fix 1: Check Blocked Contacts

In case you aren’t receiving messages on your Samsung phone from just one or two contacts, you should check the blocked list. You might have accidentally blocked them.

Open the Messages app > three dots > Settings > Block numbers and spam > Blocked messages > tap the Minus icon to remove the contact from the list.

Fix 2: Check the Default Messaging App

You need to ensure that the Samsung Messages app has been set to default on your device.

Open Settings > Apps > Default apps > SMS app > Default SMS app .

Fix 3: Reset App Preferences

You can perform this function to reset all preferences and settings for the Samsung Messages app. You can set it to default once again after completing this process.

If nothing has worked so far, we suggest booting your Samsung phone in Safe Mode. Basically, this will prevent any third-party app from interfering with the system app functioning.

Long-press the Power button > long-press the Power Off icon > tap on Safe Mode .

As an alternative, you can switch to the Google Messages app as your default. Switching to a new app won’t remove any of your conversations.

Launch the app > tap on Set Default SMS App > choose Google Messages > Set as Default .
