• Disable and enable Gmail Sync from Android Settings > Passwords and accounts > Google account > Account sync, and reopen Gmail.
  • Exclude the Gmail app from Scheduled Summary under iPhone Settings > Notifications > Scheduled Summary.

Common Fixes

  • Check your network connection : Ensure your phone has a good internet connection to avoid delays in receiving new emails on Gmail.
  • Check the Gmail server : Visit Downdetector to check an active Gmail server outage.
  • Inspect your Google account storage : Sign in to Google One and click Storage in the left sidebar to view your Google account storage. If it’s completely exhausted, delete files or upgrade your Google One subscription .
  • Free up device storage : Open Android settings, tap Storage and uninstall unnecessary apps to reclaim some free space. On iPhone, head to Settings > General > iPhone Storage, and offload unnecessary apps to free device storage.
  • Turn off the Low Power Mode : Open iPhone Settings, select Battery, and toggle off the Low Power Mode.

Fix 2: Enable Unrestricted Data Usage for Gmail (Android)

An active data saver mode on your Android phone limits the data usage , resulting in Gmail receiving late emails. To fix it, provide unrestricted data usage permissions to Gmail, allowing it to function accurately.

Long-tap the Gmail app icon to open App info, select Mobile data and Wi-Fi , and turn on the Unrestricted data usage toggle.

Fix 3: Disable Battery Restrictions for Gmail (Android)

When battery-saver mode is on, your Android phone suspends background apps including Gmail to save power, causing delayed emails or no notifications. To fix it, allow unrestricted battery usage for the Gmail app.

Fix 4: Disable Scheduled Summary (iOS)

iOS’s Scheduled Summary feature bundles notifications and delivers them at a set time to reduce distractions. If Gmail is included, you won’t receive its real-time notifications. To fix it, disable the feature or exclude Gmail from the Scheduled Summary settings.

Step 1: Open iPhone Settings, select Notifications , and tap Scheduled Summary .

Step 2: Toggle off Scheduled Summary to turn it off. Alternatively, scroll down to locate Gmail , and turn off its toggle to exclude it.

Fix 5: Clear the Gmail Cache

Lastly, a corrupt Gmail app cache can often delay incoming emails on your phone. Clear it manually to restore its normal functioning.

Note: If you’re using an iPhone, offload the Gmail app from Settings > General > iPhone Storage, to remove its cache and reinstall it from the App Store.

Step 1: Long-tap the Gmail app icon to open its App info, and select Storage and cache .

Step 2: Tap Clear cache to remove its temporary cache files.
