- If your Discord is lagging, try some basic fixes, such as updating the app or checking Discord servers.
- If the above does not work, clear your Discord cache.
- You can also try Reset Voice Settings: Open Discord > Discord Settings > Voice & Video > Reset Voice Settings.
Basic Fixes
- Close unused apps: Unused open apps could cause lag in Discord. Therefore, shut down the apps not in use.
- Check network connection: Discord requires a robust internet connection to work as expected. Do a simple speed test , reload the page, or check if your Mac has Wi-Fi issues .
- Update Discord: Apps that aren’t updated tend to get buggy. Hence, update your Discord app if there’s a lag to see if it is a bug.
- Re-install Discord: Updating didn’t work? Uninstall Discord and re-install it to see if it lags.
- Check Discord servers: Sometimes, Discord lag can be attributed to server-side problems. Visit Discord status to ensure its servers are running fine. If you see an issue, try after a while.
Fix 1: Turn off Hardware Acceleration
Active hardware acceleration could be a factor in Discord’s lag on your Windows or Mac. We suggest you turn this off from Discord settings.
Step 1: Launch the Discord app on your desktop. Then, click on the Settings icon.
Step 2: Tap Voice & Video on the left > disable Hardware Acceleration .

Now, restart Discord and try using the app.
Fix 2: Clear Discord Cache
While a cache is beneficial for smoother operations, it can also cause app lag. Therefore, if your Discord app lags, clear the cache and try again. Here’s how.
On Windows
Step 1: Open File Explorer on Windows and head to the following path.
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming

Step 2: Open the Discord folder.

Step 3: Select Cache , Code cache , and GPUCache folders and delete them.

Now, empty the Recycle Bin and try again.
On Mac
Step 1: Launch Finder and press the Command + Shift + G keyboard shortcut. Then, tap Go to Folder .

Step 2: Type the following command and hit the Return key.
~/Library/Application Support/discord/

Step 3: Select and delete Cache , Code Cache , and GPUCache .

Fix 3: Enable Reduced Motion
The Reduced Motion option reduces the animations throughout Discord, making it faster. Here’s how to enable reduced motion.
Step 1: Open Discord . Then, tap on the Settings icon.
Step 2: Select Accessibility on the left pane. Then, uncheck Enable the Reduced Motion .

Fix 4: Reset Voice Settings
Incorrect Discord voice settings could cause lags in the app. Therefore, reset voice settings on the Discord desktop to fix this.
Step 1: Open Discord > go to Discord Settings > Voice & Video .
Step 2: Scroll down and hit Reset Voice Settings .
