- Open Telegram > Settings > Power Saver > Disable Autoplay for GIFs.
- Open Telegram > Settings > Data and Storage > Storage Usage > Use the slider to increase the Maximum Cache Size.
- Run the Windows Store App Troubleshooter if you have a Windows PC for the Telegram app.
Basic Fixes
- Check if the GIF file is corrupted: It is a common issue and you can’t trust every website to let you download high-quality GIFs.
- Use a Different Keyboard App: If you are unable to send a GIF in Telegram, we suggest switching to a different keyboard app.
- Force quit and relaunch: Depending on your device type, we suggest to force quit and relaunch the app to give it a fresh start.
- Disable Low Data Mode: Turn off Low Data Mode or Data Saver on your device as a GIF file needs good internet speeds to be sent on any app.
- Update or Reinstall Telegram: Install the latest version of the app to ensure that there are no bugs or glitches.
Fix 1: Check Power Saving Mode Settings
Telegram introduced the Power Saving Mode to limit the animations, interface effects, automatic video playback, and background updates in Telegram. So, if Telegram is not playing GIFs, you need to disable Power Saving Mode for GIFs. Here’s how.
On Mobile
Step 1: Open Telegram > Settings .
Step 2: Select Power Saving > Disable it for Autoplay GIFs .

On Desktop
Step 1: Open Telegram > Settings > General .

Step 2: Click on Power Saving Mode .
Step 3: Disable Power Saving Mode for Autoplay GIFs .

Fix 2: Increase Cache Size Limit
Telegram app’s Cache stores files like photos, videos, GIFs, and more locally on your device. This helps the app to improve its performance and quickly serve data that you might want to view. So if your GIFs are not loading in Telegram, you can try increasing the cache size limit on your device.
On Mobile
Step 1: Open Telegram > Settings > Data and Storage > Storage Usage .

Step 2: Scroll down and then use the slider to increase the Maximum Cache Size .
On Desktop
Step 1: Open Telegram > Settings > Data and Storage .

Step 2: Click on Storage Usage .
Step 3: Drag the slider to increase the Maximum Cache Limit for your Mac or Windows PC.

Fix 3: Run Windows Store App Troubleshooter (Windows PC)
If you are using Telegram on a Windows PC, you can run the Windows Store App Troubleshooter. This is a built-in troubleshooting method for detecting issues with apps that you have downloaded from the Microsoft Store.
Step 1: Click the Start icon on Windows 11, type Find and Fix Problems with Windows Store Apps , and then press Enter.

Step 2: Click on Next to run the troubleshooter.

Step 3: Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the troubleshooting process.

Fix 4: Repair or Reset Telegram App (Windows PC)
If the Windows Store Troubleshooter did not help, we suggest Windows users to repair or reset the Telegram app.
Step 1: Open Settings > Apps > Apps and features .
Step 2: Click the three dots next to Telegram > Select Advanced settings .
Step 3: Click on Repair and then click on Reset .

Step 4: Once done, close Settings and then open Telegram to check if the problem is solved.
