• Go to Settings > Mobile Service and ensure to turn on the toggle for WhatsApp.
  • Head over to Settings > WhatsApp and enable Background App Refresh.
  • Ensure there are no problems with the network connectivity on your iPhone.

Basic Fixes

  • Restart iPhone: Restart your iPhone to fix any temporary bugs and glitches.
  • Check network connectivity: Ensure there are no problems with Wi-Fi or cellular data on your iPhone, and avoid using a low-quality VPN.
  • Update WhatsApp: Update the WhatsApp app from the App Store for a bug-free experience.
  • Disable Low Power Mode: Go to Settings > Battery and turn off Low Power Mode to remove battery-saver restrictions from WhatsApp.

Fix 1: Enable Background App Refresh

iOS gives you an option to allow apps to refresh in the background even when they’re not in use. This helps apps push instant notifications even when you’re not actively using them.

Open the Settings app, scroll down, select WhatsApp , and enable Background App Refresh .

Fix 2: Disable Low Data Mode

If you’re using a metered network connection or a mobile hotspot, your iPhone will automatically enable ‘Low Data Mode.’ This will prevent apps from syncing in the background. Here’s how you can turn it off.

Step 1: Open Settings > tap on Cellular Data/Mobile data .

Step 2: Tap on Mobile Data Options (or Cellular Data Options).

Step 3 : Tap on Data Mode . Ensure you haven’t selected Low Data Mode . Select Allow More Data on 5G or Standard .

Additionally, ensure you’ve not enabled Low Data Mode for Wi-Fi networks as well. Open the Settings app > tap on Wi-Fi > tap on the info icon next to the connected network > turn off the toggle for Low Data Mode .

Fix 3: Offload WhatsApp

Offloading an app clears all cache and junk files. This can remove any bugs from the app.

Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage . Select WhatsApp , tap on Offload, and then Reinstall the app. Don’t worry, this will not delete the chats or media files.

Fix 4: Check Cellular Data for WhatsApp

If WhatsApp is stuck on reconnecting to mobile data , make sure it has access to cellular connectivity. Check if you haven’t disabled the same.

Step 1: Open the Settings app. Select Mobile Service .

Step 2: Scroll down the list of apps, and ensure you’ve enabled the toggle for WhatsApp. This indicates that WhatsApp has access to cellular connectivity.
