• Go to Settings > Accessibility > Back Tap > ensure the Double or Triple Tap feature is enabled.
  • Try tapping the southwest area near the camera module for the best results.
  • Restart your iPhone if Back Tap isn’t recognized even after multiple attempts.

Basic Fixes

  • Check compatibility: Back tap works only on certain iPhone variants and must be running iOS 14 and above. You may have an iPhone that does not support the functionality. Models that can’t use Back Tap include: iPhone 7 iPhone 7 Plus iPhone 6s iPhone 6s Plus and older iPhone SE (1st generation)
  • Remove case: The feature works even if your iPhone’s inside one, but a particularly bulky case can prevent the accelerometer sensors from detecting your taps.
  • Try Back Tap again: The back tap feature doesn’t always register the tap and may work after multiple attempts.
  • Restart iPhone: Restarting your iPhone can resolve temporary bugs and glitches.
  • Update iPhone: Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS for a bug-free experience.

Fix 1: Check Back Tap Settings

Back Tap does not function unless you bind it to a system feature, an accessibility option, or a shortcut.

Step 1: Open the Settings app > go to Accessibility .

Step 2: Select Touch > tap on Back Tap .

You can see if the Back Tap feature is turned on. Further, also ensure you have assigned an action to the same.

Fix 2: Use Back Tap in the Correct Area

I found a comment on Reddit that addresses the problem – it says that the southeast region of the camera module is the best area to use Back Tap.

Not only can I vouch for this, but several replies to the comment claim it has fixed their problem!

If none of the above methods work, try to reset your iPhone to the default settings.
