Tip 1: Create a Status
The process for creating a status is different for Android and iOS devices. We show you how below.
iOS
Step 1: Launch WhatsaApp.
Step 2: Tap Updates at the bottom left, then tap the pencil icon to create a text status or the camera icon for an image or video status.
Step 3: Upload/record your video or image and tap the Send icon, or in the case of a text status, type or paste your text and tap the Send icon.
Android
The steps are pretty much the same as with iOS; the main difference is that the pencil and camera icons are on the bottom right rather than the top right.
Tip 2: Format Text
You can customize the text by making it bold or italic, adding a strikethrough, or changing the font to Monospace. If you are familiar with WhatsApp font formatting , it all works in type mode .
Step 1: Open your status to type mode (using the pencil icon).
Step 2: Type your text and select it.
Step 3: Select Format , then select the formatting you want.

Use these symbols without brackets to format the text:
Bold: Enclose the text in asterisks (*)
Italic: Enclose the text in underscore (_)
Strikethrough: Enclose the text in tilde (~)
Monospace: Enclose the text in three backticks (“`)
Tip 3: Change Size of Pencil
While doodling on pictures, one may want to change the size of the pencil. Changing the pencil color is straightforward, but changing the pencil size is kind of hidden. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Open your status to image or video mode (using the camera icon) and upload an image.
Step 2: Tap the pencil icon at the top right, then on the bottom, choose from any of the 4 pencil sizes.

Tip 4: Change Font Style
In the same way you may change font styles on a word processor, the type mode for WhatsApp status allows different font styles. Here is how to change them.
Step 1: Open your status to type mode (using the pencil icon).
Step 2: Tap the T icon to change font style. The font styles will display on the default Type a status text.
Tip 5: Add Links to Status
Unlike popular Instagram stories , which let you post links o nly on business accounts with more than 10K followers, WhatsApp is more generous since anyone can post links on status. However, only the type or text mode supports it.
Step 1: Copy the link you will want to add.
Step 2: Launch WhatsApp, then tap Updates and the pencil icon.
Step 3: Long press the screen in the position where you want to paste the link and tap Paste.
Step 4: Tap the Send icon.
Tip 6: Change Background Color
You may change between the available background colors while using the type mode for your status. Follow the steps below.
Step 1: Launch WhatsApp, then enter the type status ( Update > Pencil icon).
Step 2: Tap the color icon till you get your desired background color.
Tip 7: Pause Status
While watching a status, you may want to stay longer on a certain text or image before it disappears. To do this, simply press and hold the screen, and the status will pause till you leave the screen.

We have many people in our contacts whose statuses we aren’t interested in. But usually, they appear in the status slideshow, making it awkward for both as they can see you have viewed their status. In such situations, you can mute people. When you do that, the status of the muted contacts will appear in a separate section labeled Muted updates .
Step 1: Launch WhatsApp and tap Updates .
Step 2: Long-press the status, press Mute , and confirm your choice.

Tip 10: Zoom Status
Sometimes, while checking someone’s status, you might want to zoom in on the picture to examine its details closely. To do so, use your fingers to pinch in and out of the screen.
Tip 11: Add Location
You must have seen WhatsApp statuses with location stickers. If you are an Instagram user, you are familiar with dynamic stickers such as time and location. WhatsApp supports both. To add your location, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Launch WhatsApp, enter the video/image status ( Update > Camera icon), and select your image.
Step 2: Tap the folder icon beside crop , tap on it again, and select the location icon.
Step 3: Search for and click on your location, then click the Send button.

Tip 12: Create GIF
You can create a GIF from any video and even extract it. For that, you need to trim a video in WhatsApp to make it less than or equal to six seconds. Here are the steps:
Step 1: Launch WhatsApp, enter the video/image status ( Update > Camera icon), and select your video.
Step 2: Trim it to 6 seconds or less, tap GIF and Send .

Tip 13: Switch Cameras
Normally, we use the on-screen buttons to switch between the front and rear cameras. But at times, while recording or even while taking pictures, it’s inconvenient. Alternatively, you can double-tap on the screen to switch cameras instantly. It works in picture and video mode.
Tip 14: Zoom While Recording
Suppose you have to zoom in on a video. You will usually use the normal pinch gesture. However, WhatsApp provides an effortless way of doing it.
Hold the video button to start recording. Then, using the same finger, move up and down or slide your finger on the screen to zoom in and out. To stop recording, lift the finger.
Tip 15: Share a Status
After creating a status, you can share it with other contacts on Facebook or via other means. To share your status, follow these steps.
Step 1: Launch WhatsApp, tap Updates , then tap on My Status .
Step 2: Tap the 3 horizontal dots in front of the status you want to share and select the Share option.

Step 3: Now, you can choose who or where to share it.
Tip 16: See Who Viewed Your Status
After a status has been posted, your contacts and friends may view it. By following these steps, you can see a list of everyone who has seen your status.
Step 1: Launch WhatsApp, tap Updates , then tap on My Status .
Step 2: Tap on your preferred status, then tap the arrow at the bottom to see all your views.

Tip 17: Set Status Privacy
You may decide to show your status to only a select group of people. WhatsApp has a privacy setting for this. To do so, follow these steps.
Step 1: Launch WhatsApp, enter the text or video/image status ( Update > Camera or Pencil icon), and either select your video or image or type your text.
Step 2: Tap the Status option at the bottom. It may have a number like Status (19 excluded) .

Step 3: Pick My contacts except and select people who should not see the stat us or picture. Alternatively, select Only share with and select those who should see it.

Step 4: Tap Done and send the status.
